That’s how long until I get to see my Miabug. I never expected to miss her this much. Does that make me a horrible mom?
The thing is, when she is home, we don’t actually talk much. She is such a classic introvert, plus autism. So her favorite thing to do in the world is to sit in the living room, using her laptop to watch videos that make her literally laugh out loud. She is usually also playing either her DS or writing stories or drawing. She is the queen of multi-tasking, as long as none of the tasks involves talking to people.
And while she is sitting there, completely in her own joy-filled world, I feel complete. She may not even acknowledge me or her siblings or Mikey, but she is a part of us. I know this is not my normal any more, but give me a little time.
For many years, I imagined a life of always having Mia on my couch. I could not fathom her independence. I had to help her dress until junior high. She never pushed to be away from me, and I just figured that she’d be my life-long companion. Yes, I am THRILLED that she is not following that path, but my brain has not yet switched direction.
Three weeks of her being gone has been an excellent preparation for the college years that are sooooo close. She will be home Saturday, but only for 2 weeks. Then she goes back up and this time it will be for the year. *sigh*
I have said many times that I will feel so much more comfortable about this whole thing after this summer program is over. And that is only two days from now. And when I get to finally hug my girl and see her face (and read her emotions from her face), I can truly breathe.
I promise to share all the good news she shares with me. The things I am most curious about are (in no particular order)
- the status of her very long hair after 3 weeks of no mom-braids
- the status of her towels and bedding, because I don’t think she realizes those are laundry too
- if she actually knows anyone’s name
- if she has figured out who her roommate will be during the regular school year.
Two more days, people!!!!
