Mr. Trump has been in power just over a week and his actions have caused both my heart to hurt and my shoulders to hurt. I ache for the marginalized people he is hurting. I am afraid for my children. I am rational, and yet I am fearful of what he can do.
Additionally, I am exhausted. People on social media saying all of the following:
- Get over it! He won. Accept it and move on with life.
- Facebook is not for politics! Take your fight elsewhere!
- Enough with the _______ garbage (insert whatever word that person is sick of… privilege, feminism, etc.)
- You won’t change anyone’s mind with that stuff, so stop posting it.
As for #1: Guys. Maybe he won… but the majority of us did NOT vote for him. Plus, the last 9 days have shown how completely incompetent he is. And evil. So nope, I am not accepting that as normal. Never.
On to #2: Facebook is whatever we each want it to be. Don’t like my posts? Hide me, unfriend me, block me…. but you don’t get to tell me what I get to post. I don’t come to your wall and post political stuff. Don’t come to mine and tell me I can’t. See the hypocrisy? And, honestly, if you don’t care about what is going on, your privilege is GLARING. The fact that you can ignore it all and look at puppies all day proves you have no pony in this race. That tells me you are white, middle class and most definitely NOT a Christian. Because a true Christian would never say that another human life does not matter. And if they do, they get to answer to Christ when their day comes.
And #3: Enough? Nope, it’s not enough. Until those war-torn refugees are safe; until the African Americans are treated truly equally in this country; until members of the LGBQT community no longer fear being themselves; until we are ALL truly free to live our lives as we say we should… with life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness… then it has not been enough.
Finally, #4: I don’t post stuff to change anyone’s mind. I post stuff so that people who are struggling the same way I am know they are not alone. I’m here with you, also struggling. I am crying myself to sleep and reading non-stop. I will gladly walk along with you or for you.
You do not have to agree with a single word I said in this post. I just had to write it out, because I am seriously tired of hurting so much. And I don’t hurt nearly as much as the marginalized people in this world. Their pain should not go unnoticed any more.
Refugees are human beings. African Americans are human beings. LGBQT people are human beings. If you care more about unborn fetuses than those groups, then there’s a problem. And I’m not going to ignore it any more.
