Thinking about stuff…

brain

As I was driving in to work today, solo because my Miabug is returning to Mercyhurst this morning, I thought about a lot of things. I thought about how my kids are still kids but almost adults. I thought about my parents, who both have birthdays next week. I thought about myself and how I am such a different person than I was 20 years ago.

Then all of these thoughts collided into one thought…

Isn’t it a shame that the people you most love (for me, my kids, my husband, and my parents) don’t get to all know you or each other at the same time and share in the self that you feel best about?

Stay with me…

My kids know me as their mom who is pretty much always tired and overworked. They know me as a very hard worker, yes. But they don’t know the fun, silly me that my husband knows. They don’t know the me that my friends and colleagues know. They don’t know the young, pre-life me that my parents know.

My parents know me as their kid, awkward at all stages. They know me as a constantly changing adult. They know my kids as kids. They are not likely to be around when my kids are finally at their mid-life adulthood where I am now. I mean, who lives to be 120?

If only we could all pick our favorite age and self and then meet up. Then we could all truly know each other. Maybe that’s what heaven is like?

I don’t know. These are just my driving-in-to-work thoughts.

Happy Friday, everyone! Onward and upward….
