When I have no choice but to rest….

Y’all know be well by now, right? You know that my world is pretty much in revolution around my family, my faith, my friends and my job. I have quite the lovely life, actually. And while I am no control freak, I do like to maintain things at a certain level with a small sense of order.

All of that has been thrown out the window since last Thursday night. I had just completed my very first ‘business trip’ via flying to and from Philadelphia in about 27 hours. By the time I got home, I felt completely exhausted. The next day, I woke with a definite illness brewing. I could feel it in every inch of my body. My voice was already scratchy.

I managed to make it through the day at work, but left a little early. I came home and collapsed. I have not driven anywhere since! Now it is Wednesday. I am STILL sick.

This means I have not been a good mom, or good daughter or good wife. I have not been a good boss either, by the way. I have been good for very little.

What have I been good for? Well, my cat, Tux, would tell you I have been very good for cuddling.

I have also been good for watching out the window. In spite of it being nearly the end of March AND officially spring, Monday brought a new blanket of snow to my world.

unexpected snowAlso, I have been good for needing help. This is not something I like needing. I don’t know many people who LIKE to need help. I prefer to do it all myself, and when I am able, help others. To ask for help is quite difficult for me. (Can you relate?) Ugh. I put a plea out on Facebook for someone to run to the store for me. Mikey had been waiting on me, hand and foot, for days. He was finally sleeping in anticipation of 12-hour shift. A friend replied that her husband was already going to the store and would go for me.

In addition to the items on my list (he was very good at getting exactly what I asked, by the way!), they blessed me with a bag of M&Ms and tulips. They were not open at all when they brought them, but over the next few days, they bloomed.

Aren’t they lovely? They are also going to bless us as the first things we will plant at our new house!

Finally, the one thing that I feel I have done well while I have been forced to SIT AND DO NOTHING is to pray. I am surrounded by people who are suffering, both in real life and online. I have been able to truly focus on their needs, their sadnesses, and their broken places.

I might not be able to GO and HELP. But I can pray.

So yes, I am still sick. No, I really don’t feel any better yet. I had a chest x-ray and my lungs are clear. My doctor has put me on a Z pack, in hopes that whatever is in me might be defeated. And I am drinking more fluids than I ever have before.

In spite of feeling helpless and useless, though, I am not. I am able to comfort my kitty and pray. Those two things are pretty darn cool.  And should you feel up to sending some prayers out into the universe, please consider one for me. I’d really appreciate it.
