Mia’s New Perspective

My dad wrote this poem to and for Amelia when she was first diagnosed over 10 years ago. It has hung on my wall all that time.

When we moved into our new house, I put the poem in my powder room so more people could read it.

The other day, Amelia came out of the bathroom and asked about the poem. She must have just read it for the first time. She asked what it meant and was it really for her!

I explained to her what she was like back then. I told her she didn’t talk or even acknowledge us. She was surprised.

And I felt my heart swell with joy.

10 years ago, I hoped and prayed that Mia would find her way to us. I never imagined her as the amazing person she is becoming.

Oh, and rest assured she still lives in her own world. She is quite happy there. 😉 We are just blessed that she visits us in ours daily.
