i today i have my pandora set to the ‘depeche mode’ station, which means it has been choosing lovely alternative music from the 80s all day. <3 joy! <3 this has helped my mood a lot, as i started the day the way i finished yesterday…. foul and on edge.
what has made me foul and on edge? well, it is going to be a horrible motherly confession to say this… but my children. ugh. allow me to explain.
my daughters are scheduled to be elsewhere this sunday (mother’s day) so i thought it would be nice to go out to dinner last night. they were their usually silly, overly chatty and somewhat bicker-y selves. nothing outrageous… just lots of the same business and nosiness and cattiness that most sisters share. but the constant noise grated on my nerves.
things did not improve when we proceeded to go to wal-mart (aka wal-hell) and spend an hour trying to locate the remaining items sophia needed for her big band trip today. in spite of my warning of “I am NOT buying you anything, so don’t ask” i was confronted with ‘i like this’ and ‘i want this’ and ‘why can’t we get this?’ the whole time. *sigh*
so by the time we got home, well after bedtime for the younger two, i was FRIED. i sent the three offending busy-bodies to bed and attempted to relax with my sweetie.
unfortunately, i had to wake up at 4:30am today. that is an ungodly hour, by the way. i do not willingly arise at such an hour, except that sophia had to be dropped off at 5am. so i was a good mom, followed all the rules and dropped her off. upon my return, i was unable to fall back asleep, in spite of my best attempts. so that means i am running on not enough sleep plus daughter-induced pissiness.
so perhaps you can understand why i needed a big dose of 80s music to take the edge off today? if i was at home, i’d be curled up in my bed, wrapped up with my snuggly down comforter and letting the world run itself for a while. unfortunately, that is not an option for today. no, today is a work day that is followed by a haircut for Mia and a meeting with her new casemanager after that. not quite sure when i will fit in dinner.
so when you have a less than ideal start (or end) to your day and find yourself on edge, what kind of music do you listen to? or do you prefer quiet? and can someone please tell me when the girls will no longer make me so nuts????
