The marriage of your spirits here has caused Him to remain,
for wherever two or more of you are gathered in His name,
there is love…….
Recognize those lyrics? They are from “The Wedding Song” by Peter, Paul and Mary. It’s also known as “There is Love.” It has always been one of my favorite songs about and for weddings. I am hopeful that it will be sung at our wedding. It speaks volumes, in just three stanzas, about what really goes on during a wedding. It’s faith-filled and lovely.
We met with the dj this weekend for reception music. He will be there to play during dinner and beyond. The dj left us with lots of paperwork to complete as to what songs we do want, what songs we DON’T want, and all the other stuff in between.
Do we want a garter dance? (I said no, Mike says yes)
Do we want a dollar dance (see above)
How about the chicken dance? (I said yes, Mike said no)
YMCA? (see how this is going?)
And we are supposed to agree on these things? How about they just play music that doesn’t annoy me and we’ll be happy. As for songs we do NOT want, I’m thinking of just saying, ‘nothing offensive and no rap.’
The music at the church will hopefully be done by a friend who has a Christian band of sorts and an angellic voice. I do not want heavy organ music for the wedding. I want light, lovely, inspiring and faith-filled.
What songs do you associate with weddings? Did you have your heart set on a particular song for you own ‘big day?’ Please share with me… I might be inspired by you!

Cannon in D – in my opinion this is a must – – when we got married we did not have a choice- – they played gawd awful organ music(lol)
not having organ music at all, dee. don’t know how cannon in D would be on a guitar. i also don’t want any of the songs i had for my first go-round.
Oh, it IS tough to choose such things! Honestly I am ashamed to say I don’t even remember what songs we had during our actual wedding ceremony-not even what song I walked down the aisle to! We had an AMAZING pianist/composer friend who did it all for us and I seem to recall we met with him and said “go traditional-ish but do your own thing.” Now I’m gonna have to get out the wedding video and see! At our reception, though, I had only 2 MUST HAVE song requests. The first was that I wanted Barry White’s “My Everything” (I think that’s what it’s called…) for our introduction song at the reception. I wanted it playing in the background as the wedding party was announced and then turned up LOUD once we were walking down the stairs to into the reception, and then we went straight into our first dance- no parent dances. Either the DJ didn’t get the memo or he just plain forgot, because he played something totally different and I am still bitter about it to this day! The first dance song was “Every Time I Close My Eyes” by Babyface, which thankfully he DID get right. The rest of the evening was a rockin’ party, but I was so disappointed I didn’t get my intro song!
awww… I love Barry White! I’d be bumming too!
We still haven’t decided on much in the song arena… too many other things keep coming up! lol
