if you have been watching the news, reading the paper, looking at facebook or twitter, or even just randomly bouncing around the internet, you have probably encountered the scandal that has erupted about a former assistant coach at penn state university. if you have not found this news, just google it. you will get way more details than you want.

this news story broke on saturday. as more details come to light, it is apparent that far too many knew about this man being a pedofile and child rapist and did nothing about it. they made little measures to keep him off the campus, but no one came out and said, ‘i saw him rape a boy in the shower!’ yes, there was an eye witness. that man went to his supervisor, who went to his supervisor, etc….. but no one confronted this man. no one called the police. and i’m pretty damn sure, no one bothered to see how that poor boy was.

i’m pissed. i’m nauseus. i’m disgusted. it’s one thing to have a pedofile in your organization but not know about what he/she does behind closed doors. this guy was seen doing something illegal, immoral and just plain wrong. what did they do? they kept it a secret. they brushed it under the rug. they protected themselves and the reputation of their insititution… without giving a flying f— about that poor boy or the dozens of other boys they left in danger.

yup… this is beyond my ability to ‘let go’ right now. why? i have absolutely nothing against penn state. i have many people in my life who have gone there and i don’t question it as a university. it is a fantastic place to get a degree. but the fact that this story has come to light makes me realize something…. i bet there are many MANY more stories just like this that have not come to light. i bet there are many institutions, corporations, groups and what-not who have kept secrets to protect reputations. i bet there are not just dozens, but thousands of children who have been hurt. it’s really something that makes me want to puke.

priests? yeah… that was bad. and since that nonsense has been out in the open for decades now, this newest controversy is down right inexcuseable.
