grumpy old curmudgeon….

never, in a million years, did i expect to become one of those old people who complains about kids and ‘all that noise.’ guess what… it is exactly who i have become!

first it was the movies. mike and i took the girls to see kung fu panda 2. yes, i realize that it is geared towards younger kids. i guess i had just forgotten what that means. besides, we went to the 6pm show… don’t those kids have bedtimes??? anyway, between having my seat kicked, listening to a toddler complain about his poopy diaper for 10 minutes while his parents discussed who should change it and the little ones in front of me chatting away… i think i’m doing going to kids movies. truly, by the end of it, i was extremely irritated. yes the movie was cute, but the annoyances had voided out any enjoyment.

i remember being the one who always volunteered to take my little nieces and nephews to the movies! their chatter and frequent trips to the bathroom never bothered me at all. now that has changed completely!

In my classroom right now, there are two young people taking a pre-test. The room is quiet while they work through math and reading. Shattering the silence a few moments ago was a young voice. i’d guess he is about 3 or 4. screeching with glee as an adult chases him, i could hear the adult saying, “Do you think you’re funny???” and the child replied with giggles and screeches.

what did i do? i walked over to my classroom door and shut it, while saying, “i don’t think you’re funny.” crabby-i am!

when did i become the killjoy? when did i lose the basic joy that comes from hearing a child having fun? i know that the movie thing bothers me because movies are EXPENSIVE. and the child just now was disrupting the two people trying to test. but still….

*sigh* maybe i’m just old. see? i hit 40 and now i am just a grump.
