talk of spring….

I just came back from going to the Ladies’ Room. That is only important because of the conversation I got to over-hear. I know men are not likely to carry on a conversation while peeing, but women don’t seem to mind in the least. Anyway…. two women who know each other came into the restroom after me. They were chatting about this and that and then the subject moved on to the weather.

I should probably insert here, for any reader who does not live in the Pittsburgh area, that we have had very wet weather for a few weeks. Lots of rain and temps in the 50’s, for the most part.

So the one lady said, “I just want the weather to be nice! I can’t stand all this cold weather any more. We are not getting the spring that we should be getting.” The other woman only replied with some ‘um hum’ and ‘right’ but didn’t really confirm what the first woman had said. I kept my mouth shut, washed my hands and came back to my classroom.

In my mind, I was thinking, “I am pretty sure that rain and 50s IS normal spring weather for Pittsburgh.” I hardly consider 50 degrees to be cold. And it is not snowing (which IS in the forecast for nearby Detriot, btw). It is spring, and we have spring weather! I get the impression that this woman probably complained about winter the whole time. She will not be happy until it is summer.

What is it with rushing the weather away? I love winter. I love it. I love that I don’t sweat everyday. I love that I can pile on my quilts and blankets at night. I love that I don’t have to shave my legs everyday. Winter just rocks, in my book!

I don’t mind spring at all. Yes, it rains. But it has to rain in order to make all those plants, trees and flowers grow! It’s kinda part of the big circle of life thing, ya know?

I hate summer. I hate it. But my kids love it, so I just make the best of it. My countdown during summer is always more about when my kids will finally go back to school than about the weather. Between air conditioning and swimming, I survive.

Fall is lovely, too. Things cool down and leaves turn into brilliant color mosaics. I get to wear jeans and sweatshirts again. Oh, and kids go back to school. Did I mention how happy that makes me?

So anyway, I wish people would quit wishing weather away. All it does is make life pass by that much faster. And I don’t know about you, but mine is whizzing past my eyes waaaaay too fast already.

And if you don’t like rain, move. Cause this is Pittsburgh, lady. We get 56 sunny days a year. That’s it. Complaining won’t change it.

You make me laugh. That was great. However, in MY defense. I need a roof, soffitt and facia, garage doors and doors from the tornado. I can’t get those fixed with all this rain. I am just wishing for a small dry spell so I can get things fixed…LOL! 🙂

Oh Missy!!!! I certainly did not mean for you to not complain about the weather!!! Yikes! you have been through the wringer and then some this spring! I hope you DO get a dry spell soon so that it all can get fixed! Are you living with plastic sheeting over everything in the meantime? (for those of you who do not know Missy, her neighborhood was hit hard by a tornado!)

Great blog! Although, I am sometimes guilty of wishing away winter. Mostly because my husband can’t work in the winter being in the roofing business and because I hate driving to the city every day when it snows. It scares me. You are so right about wishing time away though. It would be nice if we could slow it down a little. I can remember being in high school wishing the years away and they seemed to take forever. Now, I can’t believe that I have been out of school for almost 25 years!

You are so right Kath. People do wish the weather away. I like winter too because of the shaving thing and wearing clothes that cover cellulite. You make me laugh with the kids being in school comment. So true. Love that you are keeping it real my friend!
