friday’s rock!

have i shared how much i love fridays? have i? i cannot recall. i have always loved fridays, for as long as i can remember. i love them because they are the moment when the weekend will begin AND the greatest amount of the weekend is still remaining!!!  i do like saturdays, certainly. but on saturday, one weekend-night is already done! *pout* so that is why i adore fridays. (and i probably don’t need to mention the issue with sundays…. that’s the day that dread settles into the pit of my stomach, knowing i will have to go back to work the next day)

now, even when i worked retail for five years, i still loved fridays. even though i worked most weekends, i loved knowing that it was friday. i suppose that makes no sense, but it did to me. also, i always closed on fridays at my store. other store managers would think i was nuts because i CHOSE to do that, but i loved it. it was generally a time of people shopping and very happy that it was friday, so perhaps that was why. i shared in their joy 😀

so back to my joyous celebrations of fridays…. i generally spend the day at work, followed by dinner with my girls. then they will sometimes go with their dad for the weekend. (btw, sophia taught me a new word today…. wuzband… an ex-husband! love it) sometimes they are with me, in which case we have a very laid-back dinner and chill night. i let them have free reign of their ds games, computer, wii. whatever they want to do to chill out. i generally sit on the couch and knit. or play on facebook. or just watch tv. it is a very low-key, low-energy evening for us all. and it LOVE that. <3 looooooove it!!!!

so today is friday. i have had a very busy, very productive day at work. right now we are listening to a webinar about being safe in the workplace. this is a continuation of a webinar from yesterday and is quite interesting. i am only typing when there are breaks, because i have been really enjoying this series of webinars.  when i say ‘enjoying’ i don’t mean they are fun. i mean they are very informative and useful. i am not resentful for how my time is being used. anyway, it’s been a very busy day.

this weekend happens to be a weekend where the girls are going with the wuzband. (i love that word!) this means that on or around 6pm, my girls will leave my home and i will hear something i rarely hear…. silence. “hello darkness, my old friend. i’ve come to talk with you again….” whoops… sorry, a tangent.

tonight i don’t plan to sit at home in silence, however. i plan to go over to the st. irenaeus fish fry. my mommy is one of the ‘money takers’ and i will get to see her if i go! also, i won’t have to make my own dinner! yay! they have awesome food, and i am taking a big risk by going later in the evening, but i don’t want to take the girls, so i will wait. (and no, i am not being rude or selfish by not taking them. they serve nothing at all that mia can eat, so taking her is just a big headache. ugh.)

after fish fry, i will come home smelling like the fish fry. if you have never been to a fish fry, this might sound strange. but there is a definite smell that hangs in the air at a western pennsylvania fish fry. i compare it to how my brother and sister used to come home from their jobs at mcdonald’s, smelling like fries. those foods, because they are fried, emit a heavy, greasy smell that clings to fabric. so i will come home smelling like the fish fry. i might or might not take a shower, depending upon how pervasive the smell is in my hair.

after that, i plan to sit on the couch, knit and watch movies until i get sleepy. that’s my big, exciting friday night. are you jealous? are you? do you wish you could smell like fried fish? do you wish you could veg on the couch and knit? you are welcome to join me, just keep in mind that my plans are quiet set. so no, i will not go out with  you. no, i don’t want to order in pizza. i want to eat at the fish fry. i want to knit. i! i! i!

yes, maybe that is why i love fridays. it is the one day that i can truly be selfish. it’s not even the entire day i get to be selfish… it’s the last few hours that are mine. allllll mine.
