a little update… and a lotta pink eye

so last week, poor louisa had pink eye. she didn’t just have pink eye… she had PINK EYES! we were so careful, washing hands and giving her drops faithfully. i never thought that anyone else was going to get it. yeah…

monday was president’s day, so the girls did not have school. when i picked them up from their dad’s, i was informed that mia had pink eye. ugh…. so i immediately called the pediatrician’s office. they called in drops and we started her on them.

by the next day, her pink eye was extra goopy. her throat was also sore. my dad took her to the doctor to make sure nothing else was going on. they did a strep test (which was negative, btw) and changed her drops. i was able to start her on those new drops last night, but knew she would not be able to go to school today. when she woke up this morning, she had MAJOR crusty, pink EYES….

before i could even get her to my parents’ house, i discovered (thanks to the beauty of facebook) that my mom now has pink eye! she is pretty sure she got it from louisa… poor mia feels sooo guilty. she was afraid to hug anyone, including the cat. mia is also missing a field trip today.

speaking of the cat, our little shy kitty, benita, has become quite aggressive about wanting attention. when i am the only one up at night, she gets in my face until i give her attention. here is a picture of her last night. i was petting her, but when i stopped, she gave me this look…

i have started the process of getting mia back into some sort of ‘services’ with a case manager, wrap around support and possibly tss in the home. we have been without this for a couple years because when we had it before it had become a hassle. i am trying a different provider this time, so wish us luck with this! (for any of you who don’t know all this autism-related lingo, this means i will have people whose job it is to focus on mia and getting her the best supports in school and at home).

what else is new with us? my bff forever AND EVER, donna, came to visit this past weekend. thanks to her, we were able to purge, clean, sort and organize the majority of our house!!! the girls now have awesomely clean rooms!!! i also have a fantastically clean dining room, which had previously been the catch-all for everything. here is a picture of louisa in her newly cleaned room:

i also cleaned up my yarn in both the basement (where the 4,400 skeins are stored) and in my dining room where my ‘working yarn’ is stored. yes, i know… i have a lot of yarn.

oh! and one more thing… yes, we are all still swimming. the pink eye has made that a little more inconvenient, but we have managed to go 5 times in the last week and a half, so i think that’s darn good! and mia? she’s down 2 lbs. yay!!! 😀

so that is our little update. you might want to go wash your hands after reading this. don’t want you to get pink eye too! 😉
